Sea Art Studio was established in 1994. In the commercial market, I only saw tiles that were ceramic, hand-painted, fired, or quarried. I felt there was a market for an exceptionally different tile using natural materials.
Sea Tiles are individually hand-made, with a technique that consists of over 70 steps. Careful consideration is given to the selection of species, spacing, sizing, coloration and symmetry. All shells and fossils are hand-cut, hand-set, and those with a void, regardless of size are filled to prevent cracking and dislodging. No glue or paint is applied. Some shells are naturally dyed for effect. All tiles project a natural sand appearance with the shells creating depth and light reflecting details. A durable non-yellowing clear coat is also applied to each tile making them water resistant. Using a separate, special application, the tiles can also be made waterproof for placement in a kitchen or directly in a shower. Please note that no two shells are exact and slight variations in size and color may occur.
